File-backed book ledger tools for long-form fiction, shipped in two host forms from one source of truth. Fifteen deterministic novel_* tools read and write one directory per book: JSON ledgers (project/bible/characters/foreshadows/timeline/outline/status), Markdown manuscripts with per-revision snapshots, an append-only JSONL event log, and an editorial workspace (transaction receipts, per-revision fact snapshots, judge scores, decision log). Chapter submissions are transactional: pending/done receipts bound to a content hash, optimistic concurrency via expected_rev, and an idempotent retry path. Writes to one book are serialized in-process and across processes by a lock file. Also ships an MCP server exposing the same tools to any MCP client (workspace root enforced at boot), a two-role editorial preset for DSH, and a WorkBuddy (CodeBuddy) expert package built from the same host-agnostic capability table (editor-in-chief as lead, author as teammate, tool-face isolation rendered per host into the host's own carrier directory). No runtime dependencies. The code does the bookkeeping; the model does the writing.
